Dear readers, it has been too long.  The elections are over, the weather is getting colder, and a fat man from the North is getting ready to break into millions of homes.  It can only mean one thing… the holiday season is upon us.  No matter how you celebrate it, it’s the time of year to embrace our inner Clark Griswold and find joy and happiness in the madness that is the holiday season.  ‘Tis the season to sip eggnog from moose cups, watch endless Hallmark movies, and spend time with friends and family.  Ask any kid, young or old, what the season is about, and they speak with one voice: Gifts.  Santa has shared a tip with me on where to find unique and special gifts.

Morsel Munk is located at 118 Main Street, Winsted, CT.  Their motto is “have fun grow young”.  I felt like Juan Ponce de Leon in his quest to find the fountain of youth.  Did I stumble upon it?  The answer is a resounding yes!  Each step through the store brought me back in time – I felt like a kid again.  Years melted away as I began to play.

Parents, this is a public service announcement… they have toys that do NOT require batteries!  The toys are powered by imagination and giggles.  Morsel Munk has games and toys that I haven’t seen since I was a little pint.  I can’t be the only one that remembers marbles, jacks, Etch A Sketch, and playdough.  These are just a few of the treasures I discovered during my recent visit.  And this isn’t just a store full of display cases – many of the unique toys are available to be “sampled”.

For those of you who lead a more active lifestyle, they can fill your needs as well.  Looking to enjoy the great outdoors?  They have you covered with tents, sleeping bags, and amazing coolers for your LRB brews.  Perhaps floating on water is more your style; no shortage of options here.  Looking for the perfect gift for a person of leisure?  How does an inflatable dock sound?  Perhaps your loved one wants to escape for a good paddle… then I suggest you gift wrap a paddle board or kayak.  Perhaps you simply want to sip a beer from Little Red Barn Brewers – well, I suggest you get yourself a hammock.

If you have nothing to wear, Morsel Munk does and can cover your back.  They carry a huge collection of clothes, including everything from T-shirts to sweaters. They even have their own line of clothing, Docktails.  Need water or hiking shoes?  They have them too.  Need some additional cash to buy new and exciting treasures from Morsel Munk?  Consider offering your previously loved item for sale through consignment at the store.  This is truly a store for everyone who enjoys spending time outside, be it sitting around sipping beer to crossing the Atlantic in a kayak.

I’m running out of paper, but if I had more space, I could write about paddle board tours.  Hmmm… am I the only one that sees a wonderful partnership between LRB and Morsel Munk, perhaps a brew and crew tour, just saying.

The season is upon us. I would like to leave you with a final thought brought to us by Donald E. Westlake, “As we struggle with shopping lists and invitations, compounded by December’s bad weather, it is good to be reminded that there are people in our lives who are worth this aggravation, and people to whom we are worth the same.”

Cheers, until we meet again dear readers!
